The Marion County Fairest of the Fair Pageant will be hel September 10 at 6 p.m. at the fairground main stage. Regestration fee is $25. Categories are: Toddler Miss 2-3 years; Little Miss 4-5 years; Petite 6-8 years; Junior Miss 9-10 years. Pre-teen Miss 11-12 years; Teen Miss 13-15. Enter to win a wood play set to be given away at the Marion County Courthouse on September 20th. Tickets are $3 and proceeds benefit the Marion County Speech and Hearing Center and the Marion County Fair. Tickets may be purchased at SVEC, Whitwell First Volunteer Bank and Jasper Citizens State Bank. The raffle is sponsored by the Marion County Fair.
The 2013 Fastest of the Fair 5k Color Fun Run will be held September 7 at 8 a.m. CST. Pre-register August 1st, $30 for individuals, $25 each for teams with four or more, includes t-shirt and glass. After August 1st, $35 for individuals, $30 each for teams with four our more (does not include t-shirt). Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Open to all ages. All participants receive free admission to fair all week (excludes carnival rides). The race begins at Jasper Elementary. the course will consist of paved roads and some brave roads with rolling hills. Fun prizes will be awarded at random. Grand prize is a 32 inch TV. The Marion County Fair 4-H Pet Show will be held Thursday, September 12, at 5 p.m. at the Marion County Fairgrounds. There will be seven divisions: Large breed dog, small breed dog, cat, other mammal, bird, reptile and amphibian, and fish. Cash prizes will be awarded as follows: 1st place: $15; 2nd place: $10. All animals must be properly vaccinated. Animals must be on a leash, in a cage, or otherwise properly restrained. The pet show is open to all Marion County youth 12th grade and under. Applicants are being accepted for the Marion County 4-4 Youth Fair Board. The Marion County 4-H Youth Fair Board assists the Marion County Fair Board in planning, organizing, promoting, implementing and evaluating the Marion County Fair. it is open to all high school students grades 9-12 in Marion County. Applicants must complete a written application. members must attend fair board meetings, enter at least one item in the Marion County Fair, volunteer a minimum of 12 hours during the fair (Saturday prior and Sunday after), for example: ticket sales, parking, set-up, clean-up, registration, main exhibits or booths, or assist with other events and activities as needed. Members will be required to sign up for specific duties. 4-H Youth Fair Board members will receive a T-shirt and free entrance to the fair for the nights volunteered.
